Kaushik Hossain Taposh, chairman of the private TV channel Gaan Bangla, has been arrested in Uttara in an attempted murder case filed with Uttara East police station.
Following his arrest, the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Md Mohibullah of Uttara East police station, applied for a seven-day remand on Monday.
The remand hearing was to be held in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman.
According to the case details, on July 18, during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, businessman Ishtiaque Mahmud and others participated in a demonstration. Supporters of the Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League reportedly attacked and fired shots near Nawab Habibullah High School in Sector 4 of Uttara East.
Ishtiaque sustained a bullet wound in his abdomen and received treatment at Evercare Hospital.
A case was later filed in this connection.
Earlier, on August 5, Gaan Bangla's studio located on Pragati Sarani in Dhaka was attacked.
