She had been suffering from depression
A woman died after falling from the roof of a three-storey building in Lalbagh, Dhaka on Tuesday.
Nasreen Akter fell from the roof of the building at around 3:30pm. She was taken to a hospital with critical injuries and declared dead at 4:15pm, said Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost Assistant Sub-Inspector Abdul Khan.
Nasreen Akter’s husband Md Zafar, who works at a petrol pump in Nilkhet, was not at home as he had been admitted to a hospital.
"I was sleeping in the hospital bed. When I woke, I heard that Nasreen had fallen from the roof. She had been suffering from depression for long time and had even seen a doctor,” he said.
A relative of the deceased said Nasreen was childless after 19 years of marriage, and her other relatives used to tease her about this constantly.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Lalbagh Police Station MM Morshed said he went to the building after receiving a 999 call. He confirmed that Md Zafar was at the hospital at the time.
“An autopsy is being conducted to confirm the cause of death, but it looks like a suicide at first glance,” the OC said.
