The accused injured two people and looted Tk5,50,000 during a recent robbery, say law enforcement officials
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested six suspected members of a robbery gang in Dhaka on Saturday night.
The accused were identified as Md Zahirul Islam Zahir, 33, Md Jasim Uddin, 34, Rakib Hasan, 20, Md Jahidul Islam Shikder, 26, Khairul Bhuiyan, 20, and Md Nayon, 28.
Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of RAB’s Legal and Media Wing, told the media about the arrests at a press briefing on Sunday.
Earlier on October 12, the gang allegedly robbed a motorcycle showroom in the capital’s Shyamoli area. The next day, showroom owner KM Abdul Khaleq filed a case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station.
The gang seriously injured two showroom officials, looted Tk5,50,000 in cash and a monitor, according to case details.
RAB recovered Tk1,93,000, weapons used during the robbery and some other evidence during the arrests, Cdr Moin said.
Zahir had masterminded the robbery and the six accused confessed to their involvement in the crime in custody.
They also admitted to being members of an organized gang based in Mohammadpur, the RAB spokesperson said.
