Strict action will be taken if any policeman demands any money from people seeking assistance or to file a general diary, says the DMP chief
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam has said the law enforcers are working tirelessly to prevent the recurrence of any untoward incidents in the country like Comilla.
The cyber-crime unit of the DMP has been instructed to increase surveillance on social media in this connection, he said.
The police official was speaking at the DMP's monthly crime review meeting on Sunday at the DMP headquarters in Dhaka.
The DMP commissioner said: “Since Dhaka is the capital of the country, we need to be more vigilant so that such incidents do not happen here, we need to keep our eyes and ears open. We need to increase intelligence … surveillance.”
Police presence and surveillance was increased at all places of worship in Dhaka. “We are ready to provide all possible assistance in any need,” Shafiqul said.
“Strict action will be taken if any policeman demands any money from people when they come to the police station seeking assistance or to file a general diary. DMP will follow the zero-tolerance policy against any of its members involved in corruption,” he added.
In the monthly crime review meeting of September, 2021, Mirpur division became the first among the 8 crime divisions of DMP and Pallabi police station came last.
At the event, several police officials also received awards for their performance in different categories.
