Incidents of stoning moving trains have increased in recent times
Police on Wednesday detained three men from Airport Railway Station for throwing stones at a moving train in the capital.
The detainees are Akash Rahman, 18, Md Rifat Islam, 19, and Md Hasan. They hail from Noyamati Muslim Para of Fatulla in Narayanganj.
According to officials, when the Ekota Express from Dhaka to Panchagarh was leaving the Airport Railway Station at 10:45am, the three young men threw stones at the train, causing a window of the train to shatter.
They were detained as the railway police noticed the incident.
Airport Railway Station police outpost Sub-Inspector Ali Akbar confirmed that a case was filed against the culprits. They were later produced before a court.
According to government estimates, a total of 110 incidents of stoning moving trains were reported till September this year.
"Twenty-nine people suffered injuries while 103 windowpanes of different train bogies were damaged due to throwing stones at trains," Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan said recently.
The minister said that the incidents of stoning moving trains had increased in recent times that left many people, including railway staff, guards and passengers injured. Even some people lost their eyes while some died.
