Accused Mohammad Tanvir Ahsan, his wife advocate Nahid were arrested from their Topkhana Road home on Saturday night
A Dhaka court on Sunday sent a couple to jail on charges of torturing their 12-year-old house help.
Metropolitan Magistrate Shahinur Rahman passed the order after Sub-Inspector (SI) Jahangir Hossain produced the two – Md Tanvir Ahsan and his wife advocate Nahid – before the court after showing them arrested under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrCP)
Defence lawyers submitted a petition seeking bail for the couple but the court rejected the plea and ordered them to be sent to jail.
A team of Shahbagh Police arrested the couple and rescued the victim from their house in Topkhana road on Saturday night.
The house help, identified as Sweety, hailed from Mithamoin upazila of Kishoreganj district.

A neighbour of the couple posted a photo of the victim with several injury marks on Facebook late on Saturday.
A journalist then notified the Media and Public Relations Wing of Bangladesh Police and sought action.
Police took action after one and half hours of the Facebook post.
