Hospital authorities detain another five female brokers and hand them over to police
A mobile court arrested 24 brokers with the help of RAB members from the premises of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Thursday.
The mobile court was led by Executive Magistrate Palash Kumar Bosu.
The arrestees include employees of private hospitals and diagnostic centres, reports UNB.
Palash Kumar Bosu said the brokers prevented patients from getting medical care at public hospitals and took them to private hospitals with false promises of better treatment there.
The executive magistrate later sentenced the 24 arrestees to various prison terms after scrutiny.
Following RAB’s daylong raid, the DMCH authorities detained five female brokers from the hospital premises in the afternoon and later handed them over to Shahbagh police.
The women are Shahnaz Akter, 31, Taslima Begum, 40, Taslima Akter, 30, Yasmin Akter, 30, and Sathi Akter, 30.
Shahbagh police station Sub-Inspector Shahidul Islam said the hospital administration would soon file a case in this connection.
DMCH Director Brigadier General Nazmul Haque said such raids would continue to free the hospital of brokers.
