A fire that broke out on the 14th floor of Northern University building in Banani area of Dhaka on Monday, was doused hours after it broke out.

The incident took place on the same day as two other fires broke out in the country – one in Motijheel, and one at Balukhali Rohingya camp in Ukhiya, Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.

The cause of the fire was due to an electric short-circuit in the building.

Confirming the matter, Md Moniruzzaman, a firefighter of Baridhara Fire Station told this newspaper: "Being informed, two firefighting units rushed to the spot around 6:30pm, extinguished the fire fully, and returned to the station around 8pm."

The building is situated by the Road 17 of Banani of Sher Tower. Two years ago, in March 2019, fire broke out at a building in its vicinity – FR Tower – killing 25 people and leaving 73 others injured.
