Fields to be preserved for organizing sports- related activities, says the DSCC mayor
Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Thursday categorically said that no market for sacrificial animals on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr will be set up on the premises of DSCC playgrounds in future.
The mayor said any kind of Eid cattle markets will never be set up in the playgrounds of DSCC as the fields would be preserved for organizing sports- related activities.
“The playgrounds will now remain open for children and teenagers, and even elderly people can also use the spaces for walking,” he said.
The mayor disclosed this at a press conference at Mayor Mohammad Hanif Auditorium at Nagar Bhaban.
The press conference was organized for a tournament titled ‘Inter-Ward Sports Competition 2021’ with two major categories — football and cricket — on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Taposh said the fields, which have been illegally occupied, will be recovered from the illegal grabbers soon in phases as many fields have been preoccupied by the grabbers.
He said the concerned DSCC authorities have made a plan to set up one playground in each ward.
Referring to the keen interest and immense contributions of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members in the field of sports, he said Bangabandhu even fought for the rights including sports of the Bangali nation.
Bangabandhu played on behalf of Dhaka Wanderers Club, he said, and similarly, Bangabandhu’s son Sheikh Kamal established himself as a sports organizer and a shining star in the sports arena of Bangladesh during his life time.
In continuation of that sports spirit, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been supporting the sport arena of Bangladesh, he said, adding that with her overall cooperation and sincere support, the sports arena of the country has been reached to new height.
“That is why DSCC is going to organize ‘Inter Ward Sports Competition-1427’ for the first time in 75 wards simultaneously to spread the sports-spirit of Bangabandhu among the new generation marking the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation”, he said.
He added that the forthcoming sports competition is going to build up worthy players from ward-level in future.
“Through this ward-based event, efficient and skilled players will come out at the national level,” he continued.
Later, Modhumoti Bank Ltd handed over a cheque amounting to Tk1 crore and Orion Group handed over a cheque of Tk25 lakh to the DSCC mayor, and the fixtures of matches of cricket and football teams were also made through lottery.
Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) President Kazi Mohammad Salahuddin, DSCC Chief Executive Officer ABM Amin Ullah Nuri, Modhumoti Bank Ltd (MBL) Managing Director Md Shafiul Azam, DSCC Secretary Akramuzzaman and Chief Revenue Officer Ariful Haque among others attended the press conference.
