‘Each light will have a life cycle of 22 years; they’ve been brought from Europe’
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam on Friday said the installation of LED lights in DNCC area is a "New Year's gift" for its residents.
He was speaking at a program at the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) on the inauguration of the LED light installation project.
Mayor Atiqul said they will install 46,410 LED lights instead of 42,000 as budgeted but the cost will remain the same.
“It’s unprecedented. Each light will have a life cycle of 22 years. They’ve been brought from Europe. Buet tests have confirmed that these lights are completely safe for the eyes and are environment-friendly,” he said.
Atiqul thanked the prime minister and the LGRD minister for handing over canals to the city corporation from the Wasa. He told the illegal encroachers to leave quickly.
LGRD Minister Md Tazul Islam said the capital city had many problems and many of them have been resolved.
“We’ll work from our respective positions to make Dhaka a beautiful and liveable city. Our prime minister is determined to fulfil the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” he said.
“We’ll be able to turn Bangladesh into a developed country if we work from our respective positions,” the minister said.
