Road accidents kill 2 in Dhaka

5 people were injured in the accidents

Two people, including a 10-year-old, were killed and five were injured in two separate road accidents in the capital on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Nur Sabiha Akter, 10, and Eftekhar Khalil Efty, 18.

Sabiha died after the CNG auto rickshaw that she was in collided with a bus in front of Janata Bank in Motijheel at 8:45am on Friday. The child’s brother, sister-in-law, grandmother, and the auto rickshaw driver were also injured in the accident.

They were rescued in critical conditions and taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the doctor on duty declared the child dead at 9:15am.

Confirming the matter, Motijheel police station Sub-Inspector Mizanur Rahman said they seized the bus of Al-Makkah Paribahan and detained the driver of the bus. 

Inspector Bacchu Miah, the in-charge of DMCH police outpost, said the body was kept in the morgue for autopsy. The rest, including the auto rickshaw driver, were undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, Efty died after his motorcycle collided with a truck in Jatrabari’s Manikdi area around 10am. Efty’s friend Ananta Barua, who was his riding pillion, also got injured in the accident.

Both of them were taken to the emergency department of DMCH in critical conditions. The doctor on duty pronounced Efty dead at 10:30am.

Inspector Bacchu confirmed the matter and said Efty’s body was kept in the morgue for post-mortem.

Ananta sustained injuries to his hands and legs; he was undergoing treatment at the emergency department, he added.
