Fire at Gazipur’s Kaliakoir Bazar, 100 shops gutted

At least 100 shops of Gazipur’s Kaliakoir Bazar have been gutted in a fire that broke out inside it.

The fire broke out in a hardware shop at around 5pm on Monday and engulfed the adjacent shops, markets on Fulbaria and Jashimuddin roads, confirmed Kabirul Alam, station officer of Kaliakoir Fire Service and Civil Defence branch.

“The local residents tried to douse the flames initially but failed. Afterwards, on receiving information, six fire-fighting units rushed to the spot and started working to douse the fire. There were no immediate casualties reported,” said the officer.

“The fire was brought under control at 8pm,” added the officer.
