Parts of Gulshan, Banani and adjacent areas will have no power for eight hours on Sunday
In a bid to improve the quality of service for more than a million consumers, Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (Desco) has started carrying out its month long maintenance initiative in a total of 32 substations.
On Thursday, power supply in different parts of Mirpur Stadium and Krira Palli Quarter areas were suspended from 8am to 4pm for the maintenance of the Mirpur Stadium Switching Substation, said a Desco notice published in some national dailies.
As per the schedule issued by Desco, parts of Gulshan, Banani and their adjacent areas will have no power for eight hours starting from 8am Sunday.
The maintenance works will be performed on different dates -- starting from Thursday till November 30 -- affecting specific areas of the capital, added the notice.
Desco Chief Engineer (Network and Operations) Md Monjurul Hoque, while talking to the media, said that Desco had come up with this move to improve the quality of service in the areas falling under its jurisdiction.
“We want to ensure uninterrupted and better quality power supply, and are sorry for the inconvenience caused by the scheduled power outage,” he added.
The power company covers around 400 sq-km area of Dhaka, including Mirpur, Pallabi, Kafrul, Kalyanpur, Cantonment, Gulshan, Banani, Mohakhali, Uttara, Uttarkhan, Baridhara, Badda and Purbachal.
Besides, Tongi, on the outskirts of the capital, receives electricity from Desco, which currently has as many as 1,111,263 consumers in different categories.
On November 5, power supply to Mirpur Stadium and Krira Palli Complex area will be cut off from 8am to 4pm. The stadium switching substation (SS) at Mirpur will be repaired and maintenance work will be done during this time.
On November 8, power supply to several roads in Gulshan, from Kakoli bus stand to south of Banani Bazar, Banani Post Office and several roads in Banani will be cut off. The Kakoli SS substation will be repaired on that day.
On November 9, for the repair work of Dakshin Khan SS substation the areas to remain without power for eight hours are Mazar Chowrasta, Uttarkhan Madhyapara, Balur Math, Shahi Masjid Road, Mund, Poolartek, Jamtala, Gazipara, Mainartek, Chanpara, Uttarkhan Uttarpara, Uzampur, Mauside, Chapantertek, Ziabag, Mollapara, Mollapara, Adarshapara, Razzak Tower and adjoining areas, Fazirbatan, Taltola Uttarkhan, Miyapara, Puranpara, Kuriparartek, Borobagh, Faidabad, Termukh, Hindupara, Snanghat, Gudaraghat, Chapanertek, Dakshin Khan Bazar and adjoining areas.
On November 11, some roads in Sector 11 of Uttara, Uttara Sonargaon Janapath and Sector 12 of Uttara will be without power for eight hours for SS repair of Uttara Grid. At the same time, there will be no electricity for the maintenance of Tongi-3 SS at Tongi Thana, Tongi Railway Station and some areas of Tongi.
On November 12, power supply to Mirpur Muktijoddha Co-operative Market, Shah Ali School and College, Mazar, North Bishil Turag City, Beribandh, Golartek, Harirampur, Priyaprangan Housing, Jahanarabad, Mirpur New Market, Dhaka Eye Hospital, Janata Housing Area, Mohakhali icddr’b Hospital, Bridges building to Kakoli bus stand, east side of airport road, a few roads of Baridhara block K, part of UN Road and from Norda to Kuril Bisshwa road via Pragati Sarani will be cut off for eight hours.
On November 15, several roads of Mirpur DOHS, Roads 21, 23, 24, 26, 27 and 30 of Gulshan-1, West Agargaon, water tank intersection, District Election Office, LGED Zonal Office, Barek Mollah intersection, Kashem store, North Pierrebagh, Mic shop, Sheorapara Ananda Bazar and adjoining areas will not have electricity for eight hours.
On November 16, to repair the Tongi BSCIC substation the power supply to the surrounding areas including the east side of BSCIC water tank, will be cut off for eight hours.
On November 18, there will be no electricity for eight hours in Kawla Mollabari, Ashiyan City Road, Ashkona, Hajikamp and surrounding areas.
On November 19, there will be power outage for eight hours in most areas of Bashundhara residential area, IEB, North South University, Grameen Phone, Jamuna and Jugantar offices. Apart from this, there will be no electricity in Mirpur Shadhin Super Market, Shah Ali Bagh, Muktijoddha Complex, Zoo and Botanical Gardens, Ansar Camp adjacent to Mirpur-1, Delta Hospital and Tolarbagh residential areas as well.
On November 22, there will be no electricity for eight hours in DCC Market and Gulshan Avenue, including several roads in Gulshan-1. Besides, power supply will be cut off in Pallabi residential area, Grameen Telecom Trust building, Olympia and Jerin Textile, Ansar Camp, Tolarbagh, Kalyanpur Natunbazar, Jhilpar slum areas.
On November 23, for the maintenance work of Baridhara substation, power supply to Shahjadpur, American Embassy, Japan and China Embassies and surrounding areas including North Badda Hajipara will be cut off for eight hours.
On November 25, there will be no electricity in Kuril Bishwa road, Hotel Radisson, Manikdi, Barantech, Balughat, Lichubagan, Shewra Bazar, Kamarpara Road, Ijtema field and Sectors 12, 13 and 14 of Uttara, Diabari and a few other areas.
On November 26, for the maintenance work of Mirpur 6 section substation, SS 3 switching and New Tongi grid substation electricity will be cut off in the National Heart Foundation, Kidney Foundation, National Housing, Sanofi Factory, Borobagh and surrounding areas.
On November 29, power will be cut off from the army chief's residence, army headquarters to the Garrison mosque, cantonment area, National Disability Development Foundation, Homoeo Medical College and Vasantek police station area.
On November 30, for the repair of Uttara SS and Tongi-2 SS power supply will be cut off for eight hours in some areas of Sector 4 and 6 of Uttara, on both sides of Azampur to Abdullahpur road, in Kanthaldia, Gazipura and Bagairtek areas.
