A father was stabbed to death, reportedly by his son, over a property dispute in Dhaka.

The incident occurred at the capital's Hazaribagh area in Basila, on Tuesday.

50-year-old Lal Mia, was stabbed to death by his son Sazzad, said Hazaribagh police station Officer-in-Charge (OC), Md Ekram Ali Mia.

“The victim was stabbed in the chest while he was tied up with a towel,” said the OC.

"After the attack, he [Lal Mia] was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital [DMCH], where duty doctors declared him dead. The body has been kept at the hospital's morgue for autopsy," the police officials added.

Lal Mia used to live with his wife and three sons in a flat in Basila.

“He [Lal Mia] bought two flats recently. Of those, one he wanted to give to his only daughter. He wanted to get married again and live with his new wife in the other flat. This triggered a quarrel between him and other members of his family,” added OC Md Ekram Ali Mia.

“We can confirm that Sazzad stabbed Lal Mia. But it’s unclear who tied him up,” the OC said, noting that the victim's three sons and wife were present at the flat during the murder.

However, police are yet to arrest anybody, and Sazzad is on the run.

"A case will be filed in this regard soon," added the OC.
