Daughter dead, the man and his son is in critical condition
A man stabbed his two children in the throat and attempted to commit suicide by also cutting his own throat in Hazaribagh of Dhaka on Wednesday.
Following the incident, the three were rushed to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where the duty doctor declared one of the children, 6-year-old Jarin Hasan Roja, dead.
Confirming the death of Roja, DMCH police camp In-Charge Inspector Md Bacchu Mia said the dead body was sent to the morgue for autopsy.
Besides, the father, Javed Hassan, 40, and his son, Sakib Hasan Rijon, 14, are undergoing treatment as they were found severely injured.
The incident took place around 3pm on Wednesday at Bottola area of Hazaribagh.
Javed resides on the first floor of a building along with his wife and children. He has a shop on the ground floor of the building.
Rima Akter, wife of Javed, said she was on the ground floor in her mother-in-law’s room at the time of the incident.
“Javed returned home from the shop. Few minutes later, I heard screaming and rushed to our room and saw the three bodies lying on the floor covered in blood,” said Rima.
All of them had cuts on their throats, she added.
She rushed everyone to DMCH.
“Everything was going well. I don’t know why Javed did this,” she said.
Md Bappi Mia, paternal cousin of Javed, said his cousin was struggling financially and had some debts.
“Besides, he had an extramarital relationship with the wife of an expatriate in the same area. There was arbitration over this for a couple of times in the area, but he continued with that relation nonetheless,” said Bappi.
“He had problems in the family because of this and had physically abused his wife several times. We think he might have done it [attempt of suicide] because of this.”
However, Ekram Ali Mia, Officer in-Charge (OC) of Hazaribagh police station said: “As far as we know he tried to commit suicide due to financial crisis. He had a lot of debts. That might be the main reason behind this.”
He said police are trying to investigate if something else could be found.
