The disruption in service will occur due to maintenance work at the Gulshan gas station and tie-in installation of pipelines
Gas supply to Gulshan 1 and 2, Banani, Baridhara, Notun Bazar, and their surrounding areas will remain suspended between 2pm and 5pm on Friday.
Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd (TGTDCL) made the announcement in a press release on Thursday, saying all household, commercial, CNG, captive power and industrial consumers will suffer the outage.
According to Titas, the disruption will occur due to maintenance work at the Gulshan gas station and tie-in installation of pipelines in the aforementioned areas that cover the country’s diplomatic enclave.
Gas outages and low pressure are two major problems Dhaka dwellers face often, with the crisis worsening every winter and, at times, also during the rainy season.
Consumers also face disruptions due to installation and replacement of gas pipelines on a regular basis, mainly because of the poor coordination between utility agencies and development projects.
Titas is already facing a shortfall of at least 300mmcfd gas against a demand of around 2,200mmcfd. In the Dhaka metropolitan area alone, the demand is nearly 1,700mmcfd.
With 2,865,907 consumers, including 45 power plants, three fertilizer factories, 1,680 captive power producers, and 5,279 industrial units, the Titas supplies gas under seven categories to the Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions.
Titas currently serves 2,846,419 household consumers, with the number of commercial and CNG users standing at 12,075 and 394 respectively.
