He has blackmailed a number of women and wanted unethical benefits from them
A youth has been arrested for blackmailing women by threatening to release pornographic contents on the internet.
Md Sabuj Pramanik, 27, was arrested by a team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) from a hotel in Tejgaon on Friday.
His mobile phone which was used for the blackmail was seized at the time.
CTTC’s Cyber Crime Division Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Nazmul Islam confirmed the matter.
A case was filed against him under the Pornography Control Act at Mohammadpur police station. He will be produced before a court on Saturday and a six-day of remand will be appealed against him, Nazmul said.
“CTTC received a number of complaints against the blackmailer from various women, including a journalist and doctor whom he had been blackmailing and harassing for some time. He used to call those women and tell them that he had private and secret videos of them,” Nazmul said.
“He constantly harassed and demanded unethical benefits from them and threatened to spread their alleged videos on the internet if they did not agree,” he said.
However, the primary investigation revealed that Sabuj did not have any videos or photos of any woman. He wanted to take unethical advantage by blackmailing the women saying that he had videos of them, the ADC added.
