Both tested positive for Covid-19, says police
Police on Monday recovered the bodies of two foreigners from the capital’s Dhanmondi and Gulshan areas.
Police said both of the deceased were infected with Covid-19.
They have been identified as Mikhail Stelmakh, 29, Belarusian, and Blago Rodov, 56, Russian.
The two were employed at the green city housing project of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) in Pabna.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Sub-Inspector (SI) Raihanul Karim of Dhanmondi police station said Mikhail was admitted at Labaid Specialized Hospital after he fell ill on August 25.
“He first tested positive for Covid-19, but the sample collected from his body in a follow-up test came out to be negative.
“Before he was hospitalized, the Belarusian was under home quarantine for quite a few days,” the police official added.
“Mikhail jumped off of a window of the hospital during the early hours of Monday.
“The reason for Mikhail’s action couldn’t be ascertained. Maybe he was suffering from depression,” he added.
Meanwhile, Gulshan police SI, Md Anwarul Islam, said the 56 year old Russian, Blago, was admitted to United Hospital on September 7 after being diagnosed with Covid-19.
“He died undergoing treatment,” said SI Anwarul, quoting hospital authorities.
The bodies of the deceased have been sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Earlier, on July 23, a Belarus national by the name of Yusuf Timur, 42, died in home quarantine at an RNPP green city housing project building.
