The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will probe the allegations against  JKG Health Care Chairman Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury over the fake Covid-19 test scam.

On Monday, she was taken to the DB offices at the capital's Minto Road after she was remanded by the court the previous day, DB Deputy Commissioner Golam Mostofa Rasel told Dhaka Tribune.

Tejgaon police station Officer-In-Charge (OC) Md Salauddin Mia said: “We have handed over the case documents and the accused to the DB per an official instruction.”

On Monday a Dhaka court placed three days of remand on Sabrina in a case filed regarding a Covid-19 test scam.

On Sunday, police arrested Dr Sabrina, who is also a cardiac surgeon of National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), for her suspected involvement in the recently exposed Covid-19 test scam in Dhaka.

On the same day, the Health Ministry suspended Sabrina from the post of registrar at NICVD. She was suspended for breaching service rules by serving as the chairman of a private organization without prior permission.

A Dhaka court placed Sabrina on a three-day remand on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) also decided to investigate the recent allegations brought against JKG Health Care Chairman Dr Sabrina as she allegedly provided fake Covid-19 certificates and amassed Tk8 crore illegally.

ACC Director (public relations), Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, confirmed the matter.

ACC  learnt from various sources that the accused conspired with her husband Arif Chowdhury to illegally amass Tk8 crore while in government service.

They collected samples from suspected Covid-19 patients in different parts of the country and issued as many as 15,460 fake test reports.

The allegations will be investigated by the commission's special investigation division, the ACC director said.
