Update : 10 Jul 2020, 09:42 AM

Regent Hospital Chairman Md Shahed’s father has died from Covid-19 infection.

Serajul Islam passed away while undergoing treatment at the Universal Medical College Hospital in Dhaka on Thursday.

The managing director of the Universal Medical Dr Ashish Kumar confirmed the matter to Bangla Tribune.

“Shahed admitted his father on July 4. His father’s test came positive at our hospital. But before that, he was tested negative for Covid-19 thrice.

“I asked Shahed to take his father to his hospital, as it was a Covid-19 dedicated one; in reply he said that his hospital did not have the required service,” Dr Ashish said.

“Shahed even inquired about his father’s health on the same night RAB raided his hospital. But since then, his phone has been switched off,” he said.

“We were not able to contact Shahed to let him know about his father’s demise. His wife is a news anchor at BTV, one of her colleagues was informed about the matter. Then a relative or a closed one came to the hospital to take the body,” Ashish further said.

Shahed is currently wanted by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) for Covid-19 report scam.

On Wednesday, a RAB team led by Magistrate Sarwoer Alam raided two branches of Regent Hospital in Dhaka and found around 6,000 fake Covid-19 reports, which had been sent out without conducting any tests.

The hospital is also accused of charging Tk3,500 per test, despite of it being a Covid-19 dedicated hospital.

Both the branches of the hospital was shut down and sealed by RAB on the following day.

A case was filed with Uttara West police station against Shahed and 17 others as well.
