The US Embassy in Dhaka has provided personal protective equipment (PPE) to the Bangladesh Police in an attempt to help officials tackle the pandemic.
US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl Miller and Embassy representatives of the U.S. Military’s Indo-Pacific Command handed over essential PPE on Wednesday to Bangladesh Police Headquarters Inspector General Dr. Benazir Ahmed, said the US embassy in a press release.
To date, the US government has provided over $43.4 million to complement the Government of Bangladesh's ongoing efforts to prepare and respond to the spread of Covid-19.
US Embassy Dhaka donated 4,000 KN95 surgical masks, 3,200 200-milliliter bottles of hand sanitizer, 4,000 pairs of surgical gloves, 550 pounds of powdered bleach, 22 disinfectant backpack sprayers, 700 face shields, and 25 infrared thermometers, all of which the United States purchased locally from Bangladeshi companies.
The PPE will enable the Bangladesh Police to continue performing their critical work in ensuring the safety and security of all people living in Bangladesh.
The US Embassy has continued working in close partnership with the Government of Bangladesh on a range of programs to identify and alleviate critical medical shortages across the country, including the distribution of PPE and other medical supplies to Bangladeshi first responders and designated Covid-19 medical treatment facilities.
Wednesday's delivery of the US funded, locally produced PPE is one of many Embassy initiatives that has demonstrated the United States' continuing commitment to the Bangladeshi people, to promoting mutual understanding and trade between the two countries, and to a strong partnership in ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
This donation is in addition to other donations from the US Embassy, including recent donations to Kamalapur Railway General Hospital, Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence, and Bangladesh Customs.
The Bangladesh Police are a critical part of the first line of defense against Covid-19. They, together with health care workers, first responders, and people who work in grocery stores and pharmacies perform remarkable acts of service every day.
