The deceased’s name is Ayesha Akter Sadia, daughter of Shahjahan who is a day labourer by profession
Police have recovered the throat slit body of a four-month-old child from Adabor area of Dhaka.
The deceased was identified as Ayesha Akter Sadia, daughter of Shahjahan, a day labourer.
The victim lived with her parents in Shakil slum, next to Alif Housing in the area, said Adabor Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kazi Shahiduzzaman.
The incident might happened around 12pm when Sadia’s father went out to work while her mother was busy in the kitchen, leaving Sadia alone in her room, he added.
At that time, some unidentified persons entered the house, cut Sadia's throat and fled the scene, police suspected. Her mother who was working in the kitchen discovered the body and started screaming, the police official said.
Later, she was rushed to a local hospital where the duty doctors pronounced her dead, he added.
“We are trying to arrest the killer,” the OC said.
He also mentioned that he has no idea why a child might be killed in such a brutal way. Many people in the slums are being interrogated in this regard, he added.
Wife stabbed to death by husband
In another incident, a woman named Jhorna Akhter was stabbed to death by her ex-husband in Mohammadpur’s Rayerbazer area.
Mohammadpur police station Sub-inspector Lob Chowhan said that Jhorna Akhter divorced her husband Sohag a month ago. They have two daughters aged 11 and 4.
Since their divorce, Jharna along with her two daughters were living with her mother and grandmother on the ground floor of a house on Makeup Road in Rayerbazar.
Sohag, who is a vegetable vendor, went to Jharna's house on Friday around 6am. At one stage of having a conversation, Sohag hit her on the head with a piece of rock and viciously stabbed Jharna with a knife leaving her dead on the spot, the police official said.
He also said police seized the knife and the rock. However, Sohag managed to flee the scene soon after the incident.
Meanwhile, police sent the bodies to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College morgue for autopsies.
