The police officials are one of the frontline workers in tackling Covid-19 pandemic in Bangladesh. In line of duty, many police officials have contracted the highly contagious disease, 27 of whom have died, as of Monday.
In this situation, the Diplomatic Security Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has turned to an ancient discipline to boost their members’ physical and mental health – yoga.
Everyone under the division – from the deputy commissioner to a constable – are required to participate in a two-hour yoga session, three days a week.
“Our members are stressed as they have been working in the frontlines – from executing lockdown to burying dead bodies. This initiative is to boost them up mentally,” Rajon Kumar Saha, assistant commissioner at the Diplomatic Security Division, told Dhaka Tribune earlier this month.
In the photos above, police officials are seen practising different yoga poses at the division office in Gulshan, Dhaka on Monday.
