The prime minister asked party members not to visit the party office if they did not have any work there
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has greeted her party colleagues on the occasion of Pohela Boishakh, the first day of the Bangla year, via videoconference.
Sheikh Hasina, who is the Awami League President, made a video call to the Awami League party office in Dhanmondi at 5.30 pm on Tuesday.
Biplab Barua, office secretary of the Awami League, informed Dhaka Tribune about the prime minister’s call.
“The prime minister called here and exchanged Bangla new year greetings with all of us,” Biplab said.
He added that the prime minister had instructed them not to crowd the party office.
“She asked those who did not have any work at the party office not to come here every day. She also said that she had installed CCTV cameras in the office and kept track of everything from Ganabhaban,” he mentioned.
Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud and Deputy Office Secretary Sayem Khan were among others present there.
Pohela Boishakh, the first day of the Bangla calendar, is being celebrated across the country without outdoor programs due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The day is celebrated every year on April 14 amid festivities and much enthusiasm.
This year the traditionally organised programs were cancelled to avoid mass gatherings as a measure toward curbing the transmission of coronavirus.
