Six of them are family members
Police have locked down a neighbourhood in Dhaka's Sobujbagh after seven people, including six of a family, tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
Two buildings and adjacent areas of the Zerogoli neighbourhood in Dhokkhingaon have been put under lockdown since Sunday evening, said OC Mahbub Alam of the Shobujbagh police station.
The move came after the seven were found infected following tests conducted by the IEDCR on Friday and Saturday, he said before adding that they are now being treated at the Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital.
"The six include, a man and his family, including two minors, who lived in an under-construction building. The man who worked as the caretaker of the construction site frequented the local mosque and tea-stall. The seventh person lives in an adjacent building," said OC Alam.
Earlier in day, Police locked down a five-storey building in Dhaka's Mirpur as two of its residents -- a man and his wife -- tested positive for Covid-19.
The number of coronavirus cases in Bangladesh has surged to 88, with nine people dead.
Bangladesh on Sunday confirmed 18 new cases -- the biggest jump in one day in positive tests since the first virus cases were reported on Mar 8.
The fast spreading coronavirus, which was first reported in China's Wuhan, has so far claimed 64,975 lives and infected 1,205,802 people globally until 3:40pm on Sunday, according to Worldometer.
As many as 247,961 people have recovered from Covid-19, a disease caused by a new strain of coronavirus, which has spread to 206 countries and territories across the globe.
