They have received a lot of responses after post on Facebook, police say
During the ongoing Covid-19 lockdown situation, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Gulshan Division has taken initiatives to help those who cannot seek help from others.
Sudeep Kumar Chakraborty, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Gulshan Division, posted such a status on “DC Gulshan - DMP” Facebook page on Wednesday.
The post reads as: “Helpless, poor, unemployed, low income earners, lower middle group people who cannot seek help from others; please inbox mobile numbers for help. Help will be provided keeping your identity confidential.”
DC Sudeep said that the police had taken such an initiative because of the lockdown now underway across Bangladesh due to the coronavirus outbreak. “Almost everything is closed except medicine stores, emergency and necessary services,” he said.
“We are all working to provide necessary goods to the poor. However, many in society are living with a lot of hardship. For fear of losing social dignity and self-respect, they cannot seek help either from the government or from others locally. This initiative is for them,” he added.
He also said that the police had received a lot of responses after posting the message on Wednesday night. Many requested help by providing information in their inbox. “We are helping them considering their financial situation.” DC Sudeep said.
Several people welcomed the DC-Gulshan initiative. Many had commented on the post and thanked them, the DC said.
