'Residents here have stopped going to the mosque after the two coronavirus deaths'
Tolarbag House Owners' Association has prepared a list of 22 people who came in contact with the two local residents who recently died due to coronavirus infection.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Shuvashis Biswas, president of the association, and Iqbal Hossain Titu, councilor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) ward 12, said that the list had been handed over to officials of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) for further action to be taken.
However, claiming that the names that made it to the list were not coronavirus infected, Shuvashis and Titu said that the list comprised those individuals who had been in close contact with the two recently deceased Covid-19 patients.
This list will help to stop the spread of the virus, they added.
Shuvashis said: “Residents here have stopped going to the mosque after the two coronavirus deaths. We had notified the authorities about the need to disinfect the mosque so that no one new gets infected by the deadly virus.
“But in response to our request, city corporation officials came with some bleaching powder and only two fog machines. I believe that was not enough to properly disinfect the mosque.”
Meanwhile, Titu, the local ward councilor, said: “We are doing whatever is necessary to appropriately disinfect this area.”
The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) till Wednesday confirmed a total of 39 coronavirus cases in the country.
Covid-19, a new strain of coronavirus, has so far killed more than 19,500 people in over 190 countries and territories, including five in Bangladesh.
