Numerous locally made sharp weapons and 85 mobile phones were also recovered from them
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested 42 suspected muggers from different areas of Dhaka.
They were apprehended during a special drive conducted Friday night.
DMP Detective Branch (DB) Additional Commissioner Abdul Baten confirmed the arrests at a press briefing Saturday morning at DMP Media Centre in Dhaka.
Numerous locally made sharp weapon and 85 mobile phones were also recovered from them, Baten said.
He added: "Majority of mugging incidents occur during the midnight to early morning period. Most of the lamp posts of Dhaka city don't function properly, which is why city dwellers who walk on the footpaths at night easily become victims of the muggers."
The police official continued: "However, in addition to surveillance of the marked areas, we are creating awareness among the bus terminal authorities.
"Earlier this (Saturday) morning, a woman died after a snatching attempt in front of a bus counter at the Mugda area of Dhaka. We will investigate the death, and interrogate the arrestee to find out about the gang."
