A group of third party vendors of mobile operator Grameenphone (GP) have staged a demonstration in front of GP’s headquarters at Dhaka’s Bashundhara Residential Area, protesting a violation of their rights.

These third party vendors are temporary staff, like drivers and office assistants, which GP outsources from other companies.

Grameenphone Ltd Shromik Kormochari Oikkya Parishad President Md Lokman Hossain said: "We have protested here from 10:30am to 11am to press our demands, including increment of our wages which has not been done in the past seven years, providing benefits in accordance to the company law and regulating the  wages for a certain section of staff."

However, GP is yet to make an official comment regarding the protests.

In 2008, drivers working for GP sued the company for violating labour rights. At that time, they also went on strike, demanding wages and benefits as per the Geneva Convention, international and national labour laws.
