5 killed in Dhaka road accidents

The accident took place due to over speeding, a police official says

Five people were killed on Wednesday in separate road accidents in Dhaka.

In Khilgaon, a man was killed and another critically injured when two motorcycles collided head-on with each other at the Bashabo section of the Khilgaon flyover last evening.

The deceased is Sagar Ahmed, 30, confirmed Sabujbag police station Duty Officer Anisur Rahman to Dhaka Tribune.

He said the accident happened due to speeding.

“The injured Sayeed Al Islam Joy has been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and the deceased’s body has been kept at Mugda General Hospital,” he said.

In Mohakhali, two women were also killed in a scooter crash on the Banani side of the Mohakhali flyover in the early hours on Wednesday.

The deceased are Syeda Duldana Akter Kochi, 38, native of Kuliarchar of Kishoreganj and Sonia Ameer, 25, from Bhola’s Sadar upazila, who lived in Mirpur, Dhaka.

The two were riding a scooter and met with an accident near Setu Bhaban, Banani police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Afzal Hossain said.

Mohammad Nure Azam Mia, Banani police station OC, said they are trying to determine the vehicle that hit the motorcycle, from surrounding CCTV footage and other means. 

Critically injured, the women were taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where the emergency doctors pronounced them dead around 1am.

DMCH forensic department handed over the bodies after autopsy on Tuesday afternoon.

Sonia’s mother Monowara Begum lamented her daughter’s death saying that a reckless driver took away her daughter from her.

In Demra, two youths were killed when a truck hit their motorcycle from behind in Konapara around 10pm Tuesday.

The deceased are Akash, 21, and Oishik, 19.

Both of them were taken to DMCH where Akash was declared dead around 1:30am on Wednesday, he said.

Oishik succumbed to his injuries and died around 3:20am undergoing treatment at the hospital, the police official added. 

The bodies were kept at the Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy.
