Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said Jubo Mohila League leader Shamima Nur Papia was arrested as per the directives from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He said this while talking to reporters after attending a program of the ministry's Bridge Division in Dhaka on Tuesday.

“The prime minister herself directed the authorities to arrest and punish Papia,” said Quader.

“Only Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has the courage to punish her own party workers. So there is no reason to think that anyone will be spared if he or she commits a crime,” he added.

Quader also claimed BNP could not create any example by arresting their own party leaders, who committed crimes when they were in power, but Sheikh Hasina has demonstrated her honest courage to arrest dishonest leaders.

According to Rapid Action Battalion, Papia, aided by her husband Mofizur Rahman Sumon, ran sex trade and arms rackets.

The couple was arrested from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday. Later, she was expelled from Jubo Mohila League.
