British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert Chatterton Dickson has paid his tributes to Language Movement martyrs on the occasion of International Mother Language Day celebrated on February 21.

"Language is one of the things that makes us human. Everyone has the right to speak in their own language wherever they are in the world,” he said through video posted on the British High Commission in Dhaka’s Facebook page on Friday.

“As the British high commissioner, I am proud, on mother language day to salute the martyrs who gave their lives to speak their own language in 1952," Robert Chatterton Dickson said after singing “Amar Bhaiyer Rokte Rangano Ekushey February” in the video.

“The consciousness of Amar Ekushey [Language Movement] is what inspires us today,” the high commissioner added.
