A fire broke out on Thursday at a building in Dhaka’s Paltan area. It was doused within half an hour.
The blaze erupted on the 12th floor of the 19-storey DR Tower building around 2:50pm. That floor houses an office of Islami Insurance Bangladesh Limited.
“Around 3:22pm, the fire was brought under control. The source of the fire is yet to be determined,” confirmed Fire Service and Civil Defence control room duty officer Lima Khanam.
She said eight firefighting units rushed to the spot and doused the fire around 3:55pm.
No casualties were reported, said Lima.
She further said that goods worth around Tk3 lakh were damaged in the fire, and goods worth around Tk1 crore were recovered.
Locals said panic broke out when the fire started. At the time, people from all the floors rushed out of the building in fear.
