Two television journalists came under attack by over a hundred workers of a market while they were waiting there to collect news.

Reporter Fakhrul Islam and cameraman Sheikh Jalal of News24, a private news channel, were waiting outside a market to cover news. They intended to join a raid to be conducted by Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) at Noyabazar area in Old Dhaka, around 2pm on Tuesday.

“CIID was conducting the raid to stop the sale of  clothes imported under bonded warehouse facilities,” Faruq Hossain, chief reporter of News24, told Dhaka Tribune.

”Over one hundred workers of the market assaulted the journalists, and their camera and backpack were snatched away from them. Their office car was also vandalized,” he said.

Later, the injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.

A case has been filed in connection with Bangshal police station, Faruq Hossain told the Dhaka Tribune.
