Another person has died after sustaining burn injuries as an air conditioner (AC) exploded during repairs on the roof of a building in Old Dhaka’s Islampur area.

The victim - Alamin - died while undergoing treatment at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on Tuesday morning, DMCH police outpost in-charge Inspector Bachchu Mia told Dhaka Tribune.

On Monday afternoon, an AC exploded while some workers were repairing a gaspipe in the air-conditioner.

DMCH police outpost Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Abdul Khan said the three were taken to Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital at first and then transferred to the DMCH burn unit around 6:30pm on the same day.

Prior to Alamin’s death, one of the other workers - Ashikur Rahman, 20 - also succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at DMCH.

Burn unit duty doctor Harun said Ashikur had suffered 40% burn injuries on his body including his face, while Alamin and Ariful suffered from 12% and 14% burns, respectively.
