A case has been filed against them, police said

Police have arrested the head of the Guardian Unity Forum allegedly for spreading rumours about the dress code for students of Motijheel Ideal School and College.

The detained are President of Motijheel Ideal School and College's Abhibhavak Oikko forum (Guardian Unity Forum) Ziaul Kabir Dulu, Mohammad Ahsan Ullah Manik, Md Sowgatul Alam Sowkat, and Shyamoli Akter Shimu.

Assistant Sub-Inspector of Motijheel Police Station, Ashraf Hossain, said police arrested four people on Friday night on allegations of spreading rumors and  of sarcasm about an ‘un-islamic’ dress code.

He also said a case was filed against them on the same day.

The complainant or plaintiff, claimed they were spreading rumours about the dress code the school announced this year.

The Motijheel Ideal School and College authorities this year dropped a requirement for boys to wear Islamic skull caps and for girls to wear an "orna," a loose scarf that covers the chest.

On January 15, hundreds of parents picketed the school and blocked a major road in Dhaka protesting the decision of making Islamic dress optional for students.

College Principal Shahan Ara Begum said neither item of clothing had been banned, but rather made optional.

She also said Muslim traditions should not be forced on pupils belonging to other faiths.
