Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested one suspected member of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
The arrestee is Monir Hossain alias Yasin Arafat alias Ashikur Rahman Mahi, 26.
ASP Abu Jafor Mohammad Rahmatullah of RAB-3 said they arrested Monir Hossain from Jatrabari area in Dhaka on Wednesday night, and recovered six extremist books from his possession.
Acting on a tip-off, a team conducted a raid at Jatrabari fruit market area and arrested him. In primary interrogation, he admitted his association with Sarwar-Tamim Group of JMB, Rahmatullah said on Thursday.
Monir told RAB that during his student life at a madrasah in 2014-15, he got involved in militancy with the help of one of his classmates. He received physical training and martial arts from that friend.
Rahmatullah said that Monir avowed to become a militant of JMB before Imam Mehdi, the commander of Brigade Ad-dar-e Kutni of New-JMB Sarwar-Tamim group, who was arrested on September, 2017.
Monir was regularly involved in secret meetings and recruitment of militant members and fund raising activities for the organization, he added.
The RAB official said Monir has divulged some important information during interrogation. “We will scrutinize his information, and will take legal action against him.”
