A fire, which broke out on the second floor of Popular Diagnostic Centre in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area, has been doused.

Four units from the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) doused the fire at around 10:25pm on Wednesday.

Confirming the matter, Fire Service and Civil Defence Duty Officer Kamrul Islam said the fire broke out at second floor around 8:20pm.

Following the fire incident, the road from City College intersection to Star Kabab restaurant intersection was closed for traffic.

The electricity connection in the hospital was cut-off and the panic-stricken visitors and some patients rushed out of the diagnostic centre for safety.

Abul Basher, a patient admitted to Popular Hospital on fifth floor for undergoing operation, said he heard a sound and then he saw the lights went off and he suspected that fire might have broken out.

He along with other admitted patients came downstairs in dark, he added.

Another pregnant woman Chhobi Akter said she saw smoke coming out from a toilet and she along with others rushed downstairs.

Dhanmondi police station Officer in-Charge (OC) Humayun Kabir said a police team has reached the spot for preventing any untoward situation.

No casualties were reported as of 10pm, he added.
