Emergency services like ambulances, fire service, electricity, gas, postal and telecom will remain out of the purview of the ban

A ban on motorcycle movement inside Dhaka city has been imposed ahead of the Dhaka South and Dhaka North City Corporation elections on February 1.

In a gazette published by Roads and Highways Department of the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry, it was also announced that the restriction on motorcycles will begin on Thursday midnight and remain in place until Sunday (February 2) morning.

Apart from that, movement of baby-taxis or auto-rickshaws, taxicabs, microbuses, SUVs, pickups, cars, buses, trucks and other motor-driven vehicles will be restricted from January 31 midnight (12am) to February 1 evening (6pm).

However, emergency services like ambulance, fire service, electricity, gas, postal and telecom will remain out of the purview of the ban.

The ban will also not be applicable for vehicles with approvals from the Election Commission and vehicles carrying passengers, with valid travel documents or tickets, for the airport, rail station, bus and river terminal.
