The scuffle took place during a campaign rally of DNCC mayor candidate Atiqul

Two rival Awami League groups clashed in Dhaka's Niketan.

Supporters of Awami League councilor candidate Md Nasir and rebel candidate Jahidur Rahman Dulal engaged in a clash on Wednesday afternoon.

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayoral candidate Atiqul Islam was also present at the place, said Morshed who is working with Atiqul's electoral campaign.

According to eyewitnesses and Awami League activists, DNCC mayoral candidate Atiqul was holding a rally in the area as part of his electoral campaign, and the scuffle took place when the rally was about to end. At one point, some of the men also threw chairs at each other.

Morshed said the clash has not hampered their campaign rally in Niketan. Atiqul and his supporters left the location for Mohakhali in a procession shortly after.

Called over the phone, Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Kamruzzaman of Gulshan police station said they had not been informed of any such incident.

Responding to the queries of reporters in front of the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) in Mohakhali, Atiqul said: “The incident between the councilor’s supporters inside the park was unexpected. Party central leaders have been informed of the matter and they will take action,” he said.
