Police seized a car, three motorcycles, a pistol, and a set of police uniforms from the spot
Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested eight abductors and rescued two people following a drive in Dhaka's Demra, Motijheel, and Mohammadpur areas.
They were arrested on Saturday night, DMP Additional Commissioner (DB) M Abdul Baten said during a press conference held at DMP media centre on Sunday noon.
The arrestees are Fakhruddin, Mahmudur Rahman Rasel, Rashiduzzaman Tushar, Shafiqul Islam, HM Moshiur Rahman, Imtiaz Ahmed, Ariful Islam, and Abdullah Al Noman.
Baten added: "The arrestees, who already have several abduction cases filed against them, are a part of an abduction ring. When their cases were put to trial, they hired Kurigram Lawyer Association General Secretary Md Fakhrul Islam, and then tried to kidnap his son - Tanjib Al Islam Dibosh."
The miscreants abducted Tanjib and his maternal uncle Khalid Hasan Dhrubo on January 21 from Mohammadpur. After taking them hostage and beating them up, the abductors demanded Tk50 lakh in ransom from their family, and threatened to kill them if the family fails to provide ransom.
Dibosh said: "We were kept hostage in a small room, with our arms and legs tied and eyes covered with a black cloth."
Dibosh is an A Level student of an English medium school in Dhanmondi, and his uncle Dhrubo is a first year student of Dhaka College.
Police also impounded a car, three motorcycles from the spots, and also found a pistol and a set of police uniform in their possession.
DMP additional commissioner said: "The accused will be produced before a court."
