The Election Commission (EC) has been served with a legal notice asking it to revoke the candidacy of BNP-backed Dhaka North mayoral aspirant Tabith Awal.

Former Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik handed over the letter to Election Commissioner Rafiqul Islam at the commission office on Thursday.

In the letter, the former Justice accused Tabith of concealing wealth informscraation in his affidavit filed with the returning officer.

After the meeting with the commissioner, Justice Manik told reporters: "Commissioner Rafiqul Islam assured me that the issue will be discussed at the commission's meeting."

The former judge also said he would move the High Court if the legal notice failed to fetch a response.

Justice Manik alleged that Tabith Awal has violated the country’s election law by hiding his wealth info.

“Tabith Awal is one of the three shareholders of Singapore-based MFM Company with his two siblings,” he told the media.

In reply to a journalist's query, the former justice said: “He (Awal) did not deny the matter when asked by the media."
