DU extends probe report submission deadline once more
Earlier, the probe body failed multiple times to submit its report to the relevant authorities.
The Dhaka University authorities formed a six-member probe committee on December 23 last year, following the assault on Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) Vice President (VP) Nur and his supporters allegedly by Chhatra League and Muktijuddha Mancha men inside the VP’s office.
The university subsequently issued a press release, referring to the incident as unpleasant and saddening. The Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof Dr Abu M Delwar Hossain, was made convener of the probe body, which was asked to submit a report on the incident along with recommendations within six working days.
When it failed to submit the report within the stipulated time-frame, the DU authorities granted the body 10 more working days. Even then the probe body failed to come forth with its report.
After the end of the extended time-frame the head of the body again sought extra time. Vice-Chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman extended the time for submission of the report by 10 more working days.
As per the new order by the VC of Dhaka University, the submission of the report has to be done by January 29.
Speaking on the issue, Prof Abu Delwar on Monday told journalists: "We have interviewed 22 persons. Investigation is going on. We are taking extra time for the sake of a proper investigation."
"We will submit the report after finishing the probe," he added.
The other probe committee members are Provost of Shamsunnahar Hall Prof Dr Supriya Saha, DU Senate Members Prof Dr Asim Sarker and Dr Mizanur Rahman, Provost of Sir PJ Hartog International Hall Prof Dr M Mohiuddin, and DU assistant proctor Prof Dr Muhammad Mainul Karim.
