A floor in-charge of Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC), also popularly known as FDC, died early on Sunday in the custody of Tejgaon Industrial Area police station.

The deceased was identified by his former wife Aleya Ferdousi, as Abu Bakar Siddique Babu, age 45.

Babu died at 4am on Sunday, confirmed Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Tejgaon Industrial Area Assistant Commissioner (AC) Moinul Islam.

According to the police, Babu was detained Saturday evening after a case was filed against him under the Digital Security Act. Inspector Iftekhar Islam took Babu to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in an unconscious state after he tried to commit suicide. Later, the duty doctor declared him dead.

Aleya's father Abdul Ali said: "Babu had an extra marital affair with Maya, the plaintiff of the case, which is why my daughter got a divorce. Babu lent Tk5 lakh to Maya. Maya tricked Babu when he wanted the money back from her."

"Maya bribed the police to torture and kill Babu," alleged Abdul Ali, father of Babu’s former wife Aleya.

Aleya said: "There are numerous bruises on Babu's body. He committed suicide as he could not endure the police torture."

Another one of his relatives said AC Moinul and Inspector Iftekhar are responsible for this mysterious suicide.

"They called Babu to the police station two days before his arrest and the inspector collected Tk30,000 from him and released him after he gave the assurance that he will not disturb or want the borrowed money back from Maya. But Babu demanded the money again and the woman sought help from the police. That is when police arrested and tortured him," he added.

Denying these claims,  AC Moinul said Babu threatened to kill a woman on Facebook and he also tried to humiliate her. He was arrested after the woman filed a case against him under the Digital Security Act.

"Babu's suicide was even captured on CCTV footage. The claims about police torture are false," Moinul added.
