RMG workers withdraw protests in Shyamoli

The protest caused immense traffic congestion on the roads due to blockade

The ready-made garment workers have withdrawn their protest in Shyamoli after being assured by police that a meeting will be held with the garments factory owner and Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) officials about their demands.

Police dispersed the protesters after assuring them on Thursday afternoon,  Adabor police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kazi Shahiduzzaman told Dhaka Tribune.

Earlier in the day, about hundreds of Dynamic garment workers staged demonstrations by blocking Shyamoli's Ring Road in Dhaka demanding payment of due wages.

The workers were protesting to settle the outstanding wages of some 80 workers of the factory, Inspector (Operations) Faruk Molla added.

Meanwhile, the protest caused immense traffic congestion on the roads causing distress to commuters.

The OC said: "The protestors dispersed after we asssured them that we have conveyed their concerns to the authorities, and they have agreed to hold a meeting with the workers later in the day to discuss their demands."
