The market price of the gold is estimated around Tk17 crore
The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) has sized 24 gold bars at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
The gold bars, weighing 24 kilograms, were recovered from Boeing 737-800 aircraft Meghdoot of Biman Bangladesh Airlines on Wednesday night.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of CIID raided the state flag carrier's flight BG 085 that landed at the airport around 7:22pm from Singapore, CIID Deputy Director Payel Pasha said.
The team found the gold bars, each weighing one kg, from four seats of the aircraft's business class, he said.
Wrapped up with black Scotch tape, the gold bars were concealed inside handles of the seats on which trays of food are kept, the CIID official said.
The market price of the gold is estimated around Tk17 crore, he added.
Process of filing a case was under way.
