Kamrangirchar gang rape: Main accused arrested

Rapid Action Battalion claimed to have arrested the main accused of a case filed for the gang-rape of a 13-year-old girl in Kamrangirchar area of Dhaka. 

The arrestee is identified as Md Ratan,18, son of Shah Alam.

Major Mohammad Anisujjaman, company commander of Rab-10 said, a team of elite force arrested Ratan during a drive in the Bank Colony area in Savar around 2:30 am. 

Police also arrested five other accused Hasan, Sifat, Sabuj, Rony and a female friend of the victim, aged between 16 to 18 on Friday. 

Muntasirul Islam, Deputy Commissioner of Lalbag divisional police said to Dhaka Tribune, that three arrestees committed the gang rape. 

The female accused was the victim's friend, who introduced her to the sex offenders. Victims family alleged that the arrested girl is one of the culprits. 

The group with the help of the female friend took the girl to the first floor of a two-storey under-construction building in Rasulpur area, and gang-raped her between 6:30pm and 8:00pm on Thursday. 

A case was lodged by the victim’s mother with Kamrangirchar Police Station on the night of the incident. The girl was admitted to One Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Four youths sued for gang rape

Meanwhile, four teenagers were sued on charges of raping a 11-year-old girl in Dhaka's Bhatara area. 

The victim’s mother initiated a case with Bhatara police station in Dhaka on Saturday, Muktaruzzaman, officer-in-charge of the police station said.  

"Law enforcers have launched a manhunt for the four suspects following the description provided by the girl," he added.

Citing the victim's elder sister the OC said, their mother took the girl to the house she works in Fasertek on Thursday and asked her to wait outside for some time. 

When the mother came out, she did not see her and began looking for her. Later, the girl was found lying on the side of a road in the area on Friday morning.

The family took her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital when her condition deteriorated and she told them about what had happened, the OC said.

Dr Sohel Mahmud, chief of the hospital’s Forensic Medicine Department said evidence of rape has been found during the medical test.
