Armed Police Battalion (APBn) has arrested three cleaning staff with gold weighing around 2.3 kilograms, with a market price of around Tk1.16 crore, from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

They were arrested from the Concourse Hall of the airport around 11:20am on Saturday.

The arrestees are - Md Sumon Sikder, 34, Md Shahin Hossain, 27, and Md Belal Akon, 28.

Md Alamgir Hossain, additional superintendent of Airport Armed Police Battalion, said the trio climbed aboard the Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG 28 that arrived from Chattogram for cleaning.

After they finished cleaning, the on-duty policemen at the terminal wanted to search them but they refused, which led to an altercation between them.

Later, they were taken to the armed police office and then arrested after police found 20 gold bars hidden in Sumon's shoes.

During preliminary interrogation, Sumon said an aircraft technician named Kalam gave him the gold bars. He said he would have received Tk20,000 for this job.

A case will be filed with the Airport police station in this regard, the official added.
