There is not bar on them to contest the polls

The Election Commission has cleared the nomination of Awami League mayoral candidate Atiqul Islam and BNP’s Tabith Awwal to contest the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) polls slated for January 30.

Their nominations were declared legal on Thursday.

There is not bar on them to contest the polls, DNCC Returning Officer Md Abul Kasem said.

The nomination of Jatiya Party candidate GM Kamrul Islam was scrapped on account for not being a city corporation voter, he added.

Meanwhile, other mayoral candidates Gana Front’s Kazi Md Shahidullah, Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s Sheikh Fazle Bari Masud, PDP’s Shahin Khan, NPP’s Anisur Rahman Dewan and Bangladesh Communist Party candidate Ahmed Sajjadul Haque have all been cleared to contest the DNCC election.
