Thousands of garment workers blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway for four and a half hours in Uttara.
Protesting workers blockaded the roads to demand overdue salaries on Saturday.
Confirming the matter, Assistant Commissioner of Uttara Police Zone Sachin Mallik said: “A garment factory named Top jeans failed to clear worker payments for the last three months.
Factory workers came out to the Uttara road demanding their salaries be paid in due time.”
Commuting passengers were hit by a massive tailback due to the roadblock since 11 am to 3.30 pm in Uttara. . It also caused severe traffic jams on both sides of the road, which eventually spread up to Mohakhali and Tongi roads.
The police has called both Top Jeans garments officials and worker representatives to find a solution.
“We hope to see some positive results following the meeting. A large number of police personnel have been deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incidents,” Sachin added.
